Located within a half-hour of Ken Pollock Mitsubishi is Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. This small town has a distinctly American history, offering jobs and entertainment to residents since 1822.
Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1822 by the Jones family, who established a thriving patch of family farms. For this reason, it was initially known as Jonestown. Over time, it expanded from these humble beginnings as a result of the Pennsylvania Coal Company’s Gravity Railroad, which brought with it workers who settled there and founded numerous growing industries.
Lake Ariel continued to grow through the rest of the 19th century and into the 20th century. Saw mills cropped up alongside a thriving cheese factory. In addition, Lake Ariel Park—an old-school, classic amusement park—became a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. The park featured entertaining rides, dancing, food, swimming, and more. This historical landmark eventually fell into disrepair and was closed in the 1950s. The long history of the park came to an end in 2011 when it was torn down. However, a few historic businesses have stood their ground in Lake Ariel, including a convenience store, gas station, and body shop.
Today, Lake Ariel is home to various businesses and churches of different faiths. It is also hope to Claws ‘N’ Paws Wild Animal Park, Lacawac Sanctuary nature and wildlife sanctuary, and the Varden Conservation Area. Lacawac Sanctuary offers 550 acres of beautiful land on the shores of Lake Wallenpaupack to explore, along with a bustling wildlife educational center and field station, and the Varden Conservation Area is a state park with a pristine conservation area. The scenery, animals, and interactions with the local wildlife offered by these outdoor preserves are ones that you will not want to miss.
